Scholarship Program

At Home Foundation has launched a scholarship program for the 2024-2025 academic year. This program aims to provide some financial support for students from Hong Kong in their pursuit of further education.

Scholarship program 2024

Background

Following last year’s award of seven scholarships, At Home Foundation (AHF) decides to continue the granting of scholarships to eligible students in 2024.

The scholarships aim to support Hong Kong students who have migrated to and settled in the UK in the last 3 years and continue their studies in this country. AHF targets to grant 10 scholarships with £5,000 being the maximum amount of each. The exact number and amount shall be determined by the Selection Panel, depending on the available resources and the merits of each case.

Eligibility

Students originated from Hong Kong who are settling in the UK, including those holding BN(O) visas, seeking asylum or having been granted refugee status and who will be studying full-time starting September/October 2024 in a recognized/accredited tertiary institution in the UK are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to undergraduates and students enrolled in vocational training who would otherwise have difficulties in pursuing their studies.

Selection process

Applicants would be asked to fill in an application form, which requires the provision of personal information and profile, and the submission of a personal statement. A Selection Panel comprising 4 members will decide on who and how much to award. The Panel will base their decision on the information and materials submitted by the applicants and may invite applicants to attend an in-person or online interview. Their decisions will be final. The panelists are:

  • Prof. Johannes Man-mun Chan, Adjunct Professor, Hong Kong University

  • Dr Arisina Chung-yee Ma, Consultant (Geriatrician), NHS;

  • Dr Hans Wing Yu Yeung, historian, columnist and editor of Hong Kong Edu Lancet, ex-manager of HK Examinations and Assessment Authority;

  • Samuel Lai, Chairman of AHF.

Selection criteria

The selection is primarily based on 5 areas, namely, financial needs, the importance of the grant to the applicant, applicant’s ability to complete the proposed study, past experience/ involvement in community works and aspirations in life.
